Chase credit score service

What is the Chase credit score service?

We've partnered with TransUnion, one of the UK's main credit reference agencies (CRAs), to show you your credit score and a summary of your credit report for free in the Chase app. We'll also show what's affecting your score and how you could improve or maintain it.

If you’re applying for things like a mortgage, credit card or phone contract, lenders may look at your credit score and credit report, along with other details about your finances, to help them make a decision.

Typically, the higher your credit score, the more likely you are to be accepted for credit and at better rates – although it’s not a guarantee.

To see your credit score in the app:

  1. Go to ‘Profile’
  2. Tap ‘Credit score’
  3. Follow the on-screen steps

Does checking my credit score in the app hurt my score?

No, checking your credit score in the app won’t hurt your credit score.

Every time you refresh your score, it's noted as a 'soft search' on your TransUnion credit report. A soft search doesn't affect your credit score or your ability to get credit.

What do I do if I can't sign up to the credit score service?

If you haven't been able to sign up, we can't say exactly why, but just so you know:

  • we share your name, date of birth and home address with TransUnion to verify your identity. If these aren’t up to date in the app, we may have trouble matching your information with what TransUnion holds. Please check your details are correct
  • if you’ve recently moved or changed your name, it may take a few weeks for TransUnion to receive the updated information
  • if you're new to the UK or have only just started to have financial relationships with lenders, you may have limited or no credit history – this may take a while to build

TransUnion regularly updates the data it holds, so please feel free to try again later if you couldn't sign up. You can also just head straight over to TransUnion to get your full credit report for free at any time.

What is a credit report, and how do I get my copy?

Your credit report is a record of your activity over the last 6 years or so. It includes information such as:

  • how much you’ve borrowed, whether that’s a credit card, loan or mortgage
  • any overdrafts you may have used
  • payment history
  • public records such as bankruptcies, judgments and insolvencies
  • your electoral register information

TransUnion uses this to work out your credit score, which you can see in the Chase app.

It's free to get a copy of your credit report (Opens in new window) from TransUnion – you'll just need your personal details to hand.

Something looks wrong in my credit report, how do I get it corrected?

If you think something is wrong after reading your credit report, whether it's an error or fraud, you should raise a dispute with TransUnion (Opens in new window) TransUnion will investigate any disputes with the provider of the data and get back to you within 28 days.

How do I opt out of the credit score service?

You can opt out of the credit score service at any time. To opt out, follow these steps:

  1. From 'Home', go to ‘Profile’
  2. Tap ‘Credit score’
  3. Tap the three vertical dots in the top-right corner, the credit score menu

You'll no longer be able to see your score in the app. If you change your mind, you can sign up again later on.
